We’re nearing Valentine’s Day, Victoria—hopefully you’re all stocked up on flowers and chocolates!

This Thursday offers a wonderful variety of live theatre productions, including the return of Heartbreak Hotel, and different plays at Langham Court Theatre and Belfry Theatre.

If you’re after more of a casual outing, check out the music bingo fundraiser at the Fernwood Inn.

Here’s 5 things to do in and around Victoria on Thursday, February 13th:

Heartbreak Hotel: Double Booked

Heartbreak Hotel returns for another exceptional year of drag storytelling!

Featuring Aria Okay, Henrietta Dubét, Jackbox Jayne and Ket Bush, these exceptional drag stars are ready to bring audiences a brand new installment of Heartbreak Hotel this Thursday.

The story follows the girls as they run into trouble when they get double booked with Victoria’s drag boyband, Call Us Men. The boys and girls must fight for their position as the city’s best loved drag group.

Tickets are going fast, and there are only a few left!

  • When: Thursday, February 13th from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Now and Then at Langham Court Theatre

Now and Then, written by Sean Grennan and directed by Francis G. Matheu opened on January 30th and will run until February 16th.

The story follows Jamie in 1981, who’s busy closing the bar where he works. A desperate last-minute customer offers him and his girlfriend Abby $2000 to sit and have a drink with him.

This show is described as a heartfelt romantic comedy, and is about the costs of our choices and the people we make them with.

Ticket prices vary, but they start at $19.

Music Bingo at Fernwood Inn

The Fairfield Gonzales Community Association (FGCA) is hosting a Music Bingo Night at the Fernwood Inn to fundraise for FGCA’s community programs!

Programs include food security, small neighbourhood projects and special events in the community.

Tickets are $25 and are sold online only.

  • When: Thursday, February 13th at 7:30 p.m.

Black History Month: Food at UVic

On both Thursday, February 13th and Thursday, February 27th, UVic’s Scarborough Charter Steering Committee and University Food Services are hosting lunches for Black History Month.

Everyone is invited to enjoy some African and Caribbean inspired dishes at The Cove in the Cheko’nien House.

Food offerings include Caribbean jerk chicken, Jollof rice, roasted Suya mixed peppers and sweet potatoes, and Salabia (fried bread).

Offerings change depending on the day.

  • When: Thursday, February 13th and Thursday, February 27th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 Anosh Irani’s ‘Behind the Moon’

Behind the Moon, written by Anosh Irani, follows Ayub, who cooks and cleans at the Mughlai Moon restaurant in Toronto, waiting for life to begin.

Canada’s promise of permanency has yet to materialize and joy is slim. When a mysterious stranger enters the picture, the balance of Ayub’s world is threatened.

Tickets for Behind the Moon are on a ‘pay-what-you-can’ basis, and the price starts at $19.95.
