Dedicated theatre-goers, or those looking for an inspirational storyline, will want to head to the Belfry Theatre next month!
Behind the Moon, written by Anosh Irani, follows Ayub, who cooks and cleans at the Mughlai Moon restaurant in Toronto, waiting for life to begin.
Canada’s promise of permanency has yet to materialize and joy is slim. When a mysterious stranger enters the picture, the balance of Ayub’s world is threatened.
Opening night for Behind the Moon is Thursday, February 6th, and it will continue until Monday, March 3rd. The opening night showing has already sold out!
Additionally, there are two ‘preview’ performances on Tuesday, February 4th and Wednesday, February 5th.
The play is directed by Leora Morris, and stars Rizwan Manji (He played Ray Butani in the hit TV series, Schitt’s Creek), Anand Rajaram, and Ben Yoganathan.
“This story is an ever-changing dance involving three men—all fathers—and how one of them struggles to live in hope—against all odds,” Michael Shamata said in a media release.
Irani is an award-winning playwright and a novelist, and has been dubbed as “one of CanLit’s most innovative chameleons” by reviewers.
He’s been shortlisted for the Governor General’s Literary Award three times, and is a two-time winner of the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding New Play.
