Beyond the Curb drop-off recycle program expands to Oak Bay and Langford

The Capital Regional District (CRD) has announced the expansion of its Beyond the Curb drop-off program for recyclable materials. 

Through the program, the CRD is opening new year-round locations in both Oak Bay and Langford. 

The Beyond the Curb program was started to make it easier for residents to recycle a wider variety of materials closer to home.

The program was launched in May 2025, with the initial hub being in Colwood, located at the Colwood Exchange Park & Ride, on the corner of Island Highway and Ocean Boulevard. 

The new Beyond the Curb hubs will be located at Cadboro Bay Road and Cranmore Road Parking Lot in Oak Bay and at Westhills Bus Exchange, near the YMCA-YWCA Westhills in Langford. 

Going forward these three hubs will be open year-round from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.  

There are two pop-up drop offs in Victoria on Saturdays at the James Bay Market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. between May 9th and October 3rd and at the Moss Street Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. between May 9th and October 31st. 

The North Saanich Farm Market also has a pop-up drop off hub on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. between June 6th and October 10th. 

Some examples of materials that can be recycled at these hubs include:

• Foam packaging – such as meat trays and protective packaging
• Flexible plastics – such as chip bags, cereal bags, produce netting, zipper-lock bags and wrappers
• Cardboard and paper – including cereal boxes, paper bags and newspapers
• Mixed containers – such as coffee cups, soup cartons, metal cans, and plastic clamshells
• Glass bottles and jars – including pickle jars and olive oil bottles
• Household batteries – both rechargeable and single-use
• Electronics – including laptops, phones, keyboards, remote controls, battery-powered toys and items with a cord
• Lightbulbs
• Beverage containers – for donation only, as no deposit refunds are issued on site

The CRD says that this program was designed to ensure as many residents as possible have access to consistent and convenient drop-off locations for a wide range of recyclable materials while reducing transportation challenges. 

The Beyond the Curb program aims to keep recyclable materials out of the garbage.
