Good evening, Victoria! Well, Saturday night certainly put on a show. Lightning flashed seemingly nonstop as a wild storm swept across Greater Victoria and southern Vancouver Island.
While it was spectacular to watch, the storm also sparked more than a dozen new wildfires. As of Monday, 32 wildfires were burning across Vancouver Island, although most remain small and are classified as being held or under control.
There is also some welcome news for travellers. Beginning September 8th, BC Transit’s new Route 72A will provide early-morning and late-night service connecting downtown Victoria, Victoria International Airport and the Swartz Bay ferry terminal. Regular transit fares will apply.
Elsewhere today, 15 cruise ships carrying more than 42,000 passengers are expected in Victoria this week, Sooke Road was closed after a vehicle struck a BC Hydro pole, and the Victoria Royals landed another top scorer ahead of their historic series against the London Knights.
We’re also looking ahead to slightly cooler weather, the return of Greek Fest and The Guess Who’s visit to Victoria!
