Opa!
Greater Victoria’s biggest Greek festival returns to the city this weekend, bringing Greek food, lively entertainment, cultural traditions and Mediterranean hospitality to Saanich.
From August 28th to 30th and again from September 4th to 7th, Victoria Greek Fest will return to the Greek Community Centre, bringing seven days of celebration to the city.
This marks the 25th year of the festival, which invites visitors of all ages to experience the sights, sounds and flavours of Greece right here on Vancouver Island.
The star of the festival is the wide selection of Greek cuisine, from the ever-popular souvlaki and roasted lamb to baklava and loukoumades for those with a sweet tooth.
There will be a selection of appetizers, main courses, desserts, baked goods and refreshing beverages for attendees to enjoy throughout the festival.
Apart from the delicious food options, there will be plenty of reasons to celebrate, with live music, entertainment and cultural performances, including the singing and dancing events that makes Greek Fest one of the highlights of summer in Victoria.
The Greek Heritage Museum will be on-site and open throughout the festival weekends, showcasing Greek history and the contributions of Greek Canadians in British Columbia.
The celebrations will also include the AGORA market, where shoppers will be able to browse for Greek products, including handmade items and treats to enjoy at home.
Organizers say that “philoxenia”—the Greek tradition of welcoming guests with generosity, friendship and hospitality—is at the heart of the event.
Admission to the festival is free, and the many food options will be available to enjoy on-site or to order ahead and take home.
