RCMP investigate after shots fired from vehicle in Nanaimo park

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating after shots were fired from a vehicle toward people in a Nanaimo park on Wednesday evening.

According to police, officers responded to reports of shots fired at approximately 8:40 p.m. on June 3rd in Knowles Park, near the intersection of Old Victoria Road and Ranier Street.

Police confirmed that shots were fired and said the suspect vehicle was described as a white Audi. Police believe multiple occupants were inside the vehicle before it fled the area immediately following the incident.

A witness who spoke with Victoria Buzz said they observed four or five men exit the vehicle before the incident.

RCMP said investigators believe the shooting was targeted and that there is no ongoing risk to the public.

No injuries were reported.

The scene was processed by forensic investigators and police said they are actively pursuing leads, including efforts to locate the suspect vehicle.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Wednesday evening to come forward.

Police are also seeking dashcam or surveillance footage that may assist the investigation, including footage of a white Audi travelling in the area around the time of the incident.
