Looking for a way to kick off the new year with a touch of culture, history, and mindfulness?
The Royal BC Museum is offering a golden opportunity with its annual Community Days, running from Monday, January 6th to Sunday, January 12th.
During this special week, admission to the museum is by donation, giving you the chance to explore its diverse galleries and exhibitions for a price that fits your budget!
Not only are guests able to visit the museum’s core galleries—many of which having been refreshed and revamped, there’s also an exhibition showcasing 100 objects that capture the spirit of innovation and design in Canada called, Canadian Modern.
This exhibition is on display until February 16th, and the featured pieces highlight Canadian ingenuity from the early 20th century to today!
Refreshed spaces include Old Town New Approach, The Jonathan Hunt House and their Our Living Languages.
Both The Jonathan Hunt House and Our Living Languages were developed in partnership with the First Peoples’ Cultural Council, and are located on the third floor of the museum.
Don’t forget about the IMAX theatre, playing awe-inspiring films such as Space: The New Frontier, Arctic: Our Frozen Planet, Superhuman Body: The World of Medical Marvels and many more.
Just note that regular admission prices apply to all of the IMAX screenings.
And that’s not all! For those looking to add a sense of intentionality to their visit, Thursday, January 9th to Monday, January 13th marks Letter Writing Week at the museum.
Take a break from modern digital communication and embrace the nostalgia of handwritten letters!
A letter-writing station will be set up on the third-floor mezzanine from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., where you’ll find paper, pens, envelopes, and even stamps—everything you need to reconnect with the lost art of letter writing.
Plus, there will be self-guided wellness stations across the galleries from Monday, January 6th to Sunday, January 19th for those seeking a quiet moment of reflection.
For those that are unfamiliar, Community Days is not only about offering visitors a chance to explore the museum for less, it’s also about giving back.
The donations collected during the week go towards supporting a wide range of museum initiatives, from preserving and conserving historical artifacts to digitizing collections, creating educational programs, and so much more.
So mark your calendars and head to the Royal BC Museum—there’s truly something for everyone to discover!
