An online fundraiser has been launched to provide financial aid to the family of the Goldstream Falls drowning victim who died last weekend.

West Shore RCMP responded to Goldstream Provincial Park at approximately 7:35 p.m. on August 17th following a report of a swimmer in distress.

The swimmer, now identified as 27-year-old Deepender Singh, had been swimming near the waterfall in Goldstream Provincial Park when he went underwater and did not resurface.

Bystanders pulled him from the water and immediately began life-saving efforts while emergency crews were on their way.

Singh was transported to hospital for further treatment but later died.

Since his death, Deepender’s younger brother Pushpinder has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help his family during this time of grieving.

“Deepender was only 27 years old,” wrote Pushpinder in the campaign description.

“His passing was sudden and completely unexpected, leaving our family, friends and everyone who knew him devastated.”

The funds raised by this campaign will go towards helping the Singh family with unexpected expenses associated with his passing, including funeral and memorial arrangements and other related costs.

Pushpinder says that any funds remaining after these expenses have been covered will be sent directly to Deepender’s parents to help support them during this difficult time.

“No family is ever prepared to lose someone so young and so suddenly,” Pushpinder continued.

“Any contribution, no matter the amount, would mean a great deal to us. If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with others would also be deeply appreciated.”

He added that his family is extremely grateful to the bystanders who immediately tried to save Deepender, as well as the first responders, medical professionals and everyone who has reached out to support the family.

“Thank you for your kindness, prayers, support and generosity during this heartbreaking time.”

As of this publication, the fundraiser has garnered over $13,000 of its $15,000 goal.
