A single-vehicle collision in Colwood has led to the arrest of a suspended driver and an ongoing drug trafficking investigation.
West Shore RCMP officers responded to the intersection of Island Highway and Wale Road at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19th, after receiving a report that a pickup truck had crashed into a telephone pole.
According to police, a witness reported seeing the driver performing a burnout before the collision occurred.
Officers identified the driver as a 53-year-old man whose driver’s licence was suspended. While police determined that he was sober, officers reportedly observed evidence of illicit drugs inside the pickup truck.
The driver was subsequently arrested in connection with suspected drug trafficking offences.
A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered approximately 240 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 98 grams of suspected cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
Police also issued the driver several motor vehicle infractions, including driving without due care and attention, stunting and having tinted windows.
The pickup truck was impounded, and West Shore RCMP said the drug trafficking investigation remains ongoing.
