The Victoria Royals are gearing up for an exciting showdown tonight, as they host the Everett Silvertips and their exceptional status defenceman, Landon DuPont.

The puck drops at 7:05 p.m., promising an exciting match up against the league-leading Silvertips at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre.

The Royals already proved they can take on Everett, having defeated them on November 27th in a dramatic overtime victory. After tying the game with two unanswered goals, the Royals snatched the win in extra time.

Tonight’s game will also mark the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre debut of 15-year-old Landon DuPont. Granted Exceptional Status to join the WHL early, DuPont has made a remarkable start to his career.

With 10 goals and 40 points in 32 games, he ranks among the top two defencemen in the league. His recent performance includes four goals and four assists over the last three games.

DuPont also shone on the international stage, contributing four assists in four games at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge to help Team Canada Red secure a silver medal. Fans won’t want to miss this rising star in action.

The Royals are coming off a back-to-back New Year’s series against the Vancouver Giants, where they claimed three of four possible points. On New Year’s Eve, they fell in a heartbreaking 7-6 shootout loss after surrendering four third-period goals. However, they bounced back strongly on New Year’s Day, dominating the first period again with four goals en route to a decisive 5-2 victory.

Following their New Year’s Day win, the Royals made significant moves to bolster their roster. On Wednesday, they acquired forward Kenta Isogai from the Wenatchee Wild in exchange for two prospects and multiple draft picks. Isogai, a 20-year-old standout from Nagano, Japan, has tallied 15 goals and 23 assists in just 28 games this season. With 126 points in 92 career WHL games, he’s expected to bring a dynamic offensive edge to the Royals.

The team followed up with another major trade on Thursday, acquiring Brandon Lisowsky from the Saskatoon Blades. Lisowsky, a consistent WHL scorer and a Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick, has posted 22 goals and 20 assists in 29 games this season. In exchange, the Royals traded fan-favourite Tanner Scott along with draft picks.

“Brandon has been one of the league’s most consistent goal scorers over the last number of years,” said Royals General Manager Jake Heisinger. “We felt we needed to add a goal scorer to our lineup, and we feel Brandon will bring that to our group.”

It remains unclear whether Isogai and Lisowsky will suit up for tonight’s game, but their addition to the roster has fans buzzing with anticipation.
