Local football fans are rejoicing as a national championship makes its way to the West Shore.
After an incredible season for Langford’s own Westshore Rebels junior football team, they’ll be battling for the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) title.
On Sunday, November 9th at 1 p.m., the Rebels will take on the Regina Thunder at Langford’s Starlight Stadium to see who will be crowned Canada’s best junior football team.
The Rebels secured their spot in the finals after a back-and-forth victory over the Langley Rams on Saturday, October 24th, setting the stage for a battle in front of the Langford team’s home crowd.
Next, they’ll play in the Canadian Bowl.
Referred to fondly as the CJFL’s holy grail, this will be the third time the Rebels have played in the championship, coming up short in both 2016 and 2023.
This time, they’ll hope to finally overcome that hurdle and lift the cup on home turf.
It will be a difficult contest for the Rebels as they face off against Regina for the first time in the franchise’s history.
The Rebels say that for West Shore fans, it’s a chance to experience championship football close to home.
They hope that fans will help propel the team to the victory they’ve worked so hard for by providing an electric atmosphere at the stadium.
“Hosting the Canadian Bowl is an incredible opportunity for our players, our organization and the entire [West Shore] community,” said Rob Lervold, president of the Westshore Rebels.
“This team has worked hard to earn its place on the national stage, and we can’t wait to see the stands filled with fans cheering them on.”
