Fatal collision on Sooke Road claims life of 63-year-old woman

A tragic collision on Sooke Road (Highway 14) has claimed the life of a 63-year-old woman.

On Thursday January 2nd, just before 4 p.m., Sooke RCMP were called to the 5000 block of Sooke Road following a collision between an Acura 1.6E travelling westbound and an eastbound truck.

The crash occurred on a sharp bend in the roadway, a section known for its challenging driving conditions.

Police said the female driver of the Acura was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck escaped without injury. The identity of the deceased driver was not released.

Emergency crews and an RCMP traffic analyst were on-site for several hours, conducting a thorough examination of the crash site and collecting evidence to determine the cause of the accident.

“BC Emergency Health Services received a call at 3:50 p.m. yesterday (January 2, 2025) about a motor vehicle incident in the 5200 block of Sooke Road in Sooke,” said Paramedic Public Information Officer Brian Twaites.

“Two ambulances with primary care paramedics and an ambulance with advanced care paramedics responded to the scene. Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment and transported one person to hospital in stable condition.”

Traffic on Highway 14 was halted as police investigated, with the road fully reopening around 9 p.m. Thursday night.
