The more than 100-year-old building that houses the beloved and iconic Duncan Showroom has sold, meaning the music venue will eventually have to close.

The Duncan Showroom has been hosting live music and entertainment for over 23 years, having originally opened its doors in September 2003 above the Duncan Garage, before moving to its current home on Station Street.

The building was put up for sale in September of this year, leaving Owner and Operator “Longevity” John Falkner not knowing how soon he would have to vacate the premises.

According to its listing, the building was listed for $769,000, and sold just one month later in October.

The new owners reportedly have plans for the space and will not renew the lease for Duncan Showroom to continue operations.

Initially, Falkner thought he had until the end of December to vacate the premises, but now he has confirmed the venue will be open for a little while longer.

“Somewhat good news,” Falkner wrote in a social media post.

“Chatted with the new landlord Sean on Thursday and he informed us we could now stay at least until the end of March [2027].”

Falkner noted that this news will take some of the stress off his shoulders as he has been looking for a suitable space to relocate to since being informed of the building’s sale.

Furthermore, the new owner of the property has indicated to Falkner that he will help the venue find a new home if he can.

“Sean gets what we are to the community, born and raised in Duncan as were his parents, he will be helping us find a new venue,” he explained.

Prior to the knowledge of the extension, the Duncan Showroom had been planning its “First Final Farewell,” throughout the entirety of November, with many notable musicians slated to take the celebrated stage.

The Duncan Showroom is known across the country and sets itself apart in many ways, including being an alcohol-free venue.

As Falkner works to find a new home for the Showroom, the community is rallying behind him to support in what ways they can.
