Just shy of one year later, a man from Port Alberni has been criminally charged in connection to a fatal collision on Highway 19A northbound near Fanny Bay.
The incident occurred on July 31st, 2025, when a pickup truck towing a recreational trailer collided with multiple vehicles on Highway 19A.
The collision resulted in the death of a man who was standing on the side of the road.
On July 13th, 2026, 61-year-old Barry Munroe was arrested in connection with this incident as the driver of the pickup truck.
Then, on June 24th, the BC Prosecution Service approved charges against Munroe.
Munroe has been charged with impaired driving causing death, driving with a blood alcohol content over 0.08% causing death and obstruction of a peace officer.
The accused remains in custody awaiting bail hearings.
