Nanaimo RCMP have made an arrest after a 27-year-old man died of injuries stemming from a nightclub altercation earlier this month.

At around 1 a.m. on Friday, July 17th, the 27-year-old was allegedly assaulted outside the Sweet Spot Lounge in Nanaimo.

Police say he was transported to hospital for medical treatment after suffering life-threatening injuries.

However, despite extensive medical treatment, the victim died from the injuries in hospital.

Since his death, a 33-year-old man has been arrested and charged with manslaughter and Nanaimo RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit has taken over the investigation.

Police said no further information will be released, as this matter is now before the courts.

Anyone who witnessed the assault, or who was in the area around the time it occurred should contact Nanaimo RCMP at (250) 754-2345.
