Major British media outlet names Victoria one of top places to visit in Canada

As if we needed any more validation, Victoria has once again been named one of the best places to visit in Canada!

According to an article published by The Independent, the capital of BC is on the short list for World Cup visitors.

Ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup events, the online newspaper says “all eyes are on Canada,” and points to Victoria as a top spot to visit for tourists visiting the country for the games.

Along with Vancouver, Banff, Toronto, Prince Edward Island and the Yukon, the publication sang Victoria’s praises as one of the top six places in Canada and a prime spot for tourists to visit while here for the World Cup.

The article references another 2025 story by Neil Davey, which named the city the most overlooked in Canada.

“There’s a lot here for history (or architecture) buffs,” said Davey.

“Happily, there’s also information, via the splendid Royal BC Museum and several public displays, on the region’s indigenous history, which long pre-dates the city’s naming in tribute to a British monarch.”

Davey went on to praise the beauty of the city, highlighting the open spaces and parks, and acknowledging the truth of the Garden City nickname. He also lauded the city’s views of the water and view of the Olympic mountains on the horizon.

While we in BC might not see the city as overlooked, it can be easy to forget how incredible this place can be.

As a visitor, Davey admires the world-class dining experiences, natural spaces in and around the inner city, and the charm of smaller establishments like Spinnaker’s pub.

What’s your favourite thing about the Garden City?
