The new Sooke Skate Park is officially open for skaters, scooters and bikes.
The Sooke and Electoral Area Parks and Recreation Commission (SEAPARC) and the Capital Regional District (CRD) built this skate park to provide the community with a space for active gathering.
The original skate park at this site was originally built in 1997 by the Rotary Club of Sooke. It was a well-loved community amenity, but was in need of replacement.
As of Sunday, May 31st, youth, families and riders of all ages and abilities have been at the park, seeing what it has to offer.
The new park’s concept design was completed in 2025, and incorporated feedback from the community and industry experts.
Located at 6520 Throup Road, the Sooke Skate Park features surf-inspired transitions, with a mini-ramp and organic bowl.
It also incorporates street-style elements that complement the flowing lines throughout the park.
This park was designed to accommodate beginners and advanced riders alike to support positive youth engagement and provide a welcoming environment for all who use it.
“The Sooke Skate Park is more than a recreation facility, it’s an important investment in our community’s youth, and provides an active gathering place that will create connections for generations to come,” said Al Beddows, SEAPARC commission chair.
“We are excited to see this project completed in time for the summer.”
All-in, the project cost $1,100,000 and was managed by Newline Skateparks.
SEAPARC added that helmets and safety gear are strongly encouraged for anyone using the park.
