Cinevic Educational Series – analog and DIY cinema with Intrepid Theatre

CineVic’s second instalment of the Education Series will be a demonstration on what you can create using analog film and DIY techniques.

Local filmmaker Rachel Evans will talk you through CineVic’s newest Bolex camera and macro lenses, her experimentation process and affordable ways to create your own 16mm films.

Rachel Evans is a compulsive creator, driven by a love of experimentation and process. She has followed her curiosity into many different fields of work and study including environmental work, education and the commercial film industry.

Primarily inspired by nature, her art focuses on biological processes and human relationships to the natural world. She studied sculpture and drawing at UVic, animation and analogue filmmaking at Quickdraw Animation Society and Environmental Monitoring at the University of Northern BC.

Currently she lives in Victoria, BC where she works as a park naturalist, gleaning daily inspiration for her next analogue film from the forests, beaches and fields

Destroyed Cinema’s JP Meldrum will then follow with a chat on Victoria’s DIY film scene and the history of DIY filmmakers.

This will be the independent film night of your dreams!

JP Meldrum is a musician, author, filmmaker and co-founder of Destroyed Cinema. He’s directed four films, written a novel and released 50 plus albums since 2012. He is preoccupied with genre, proliferation, anti-perfectionism, and self-reliance outside of the industry.

Tickets are free for Cinevic members, or $10 general admission. Purchase yours here.

Gorge Beach Cleanup

Celebrate Ocean Week Canada with purposeful action at the Gorge!

It’s time to come together to care for the shoreline we all love.

Bring your friends, family and neighbours for a hands‑on beach clean‑up that protects local wildlife, restores habitat and keeps our waters healthy for generations to come.

Personal kayaks and paddleboards are welcome! Paddling is a great way to reach coastlines with less foot access.

This is more than a beach clean-up—it’s a chance to learn about local ecosystems, support salmon‑bearing waters and contribute to the long-term health of the Gorge Waterway.

Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or joining for the first time, your efforts help protect shoreline species and strengthen community stewardship.

All ages are welcome and supplies will be provided.
