Happy Tuesday, Victoria!

The pride events are starting to roll in this month! We’ve got a couple of them listed below, along with some other non-Pride events happening in town to get you out and about.

Whether you’re looking to learn more about trans history and archives, get out on the dance floor with a queer country music night or catch a cult classic on the big screen at the Vic Theatre, there’s so much going on for you to do.

Here are 5 things to do in and around Victoria this Tuesday, June 9th:

Our “tired old flame queens:” Studying and Archiving Trans Histories of the Digital Age at the library

There’s no better time to learn about the history of transgender people than Pride month!

Head down to the downtown Central branch of the Greater Victoria Public Library for a free talk on transgender archives.

This talk will be put on by Avery Dame-Griff of the Chair of Transgender Studies.

The event is free, but registration is required. You can register here to view the event in person or online.

Trainspotting at the Vic Theatre

Catch the cult classic Trainspotting at the Vic Theatre!

Celebrate the 30th anniversary of Trainspotting with a stunning 4K restoration of Danny Boyle’s explosive film.

Starring Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and Kelly Macdonald, this darkly funny, era-defining film features an iconic soundtrack.

Honky Tonk Tuesday with Elise Leblanc, Slim Shandy & the Hillbilly Boppers at Encore Victoria

Elise LeBlanc with The Victoria Honky Tonk Band features Victoria’s very own queer country crooner with a full band of local all-star players.

Lively old-school country and western swing tunes from classic legends like Hank Williams, Bob Wills, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline and more.

Big hats and bolo ties encouraged!

With a special guest set featuring Slim Sandy & The Hillbilly Boppers.

A mix of old time country music, western swing and rockabilly, from the 30s to the 50′.

Slim sings, plays guitar and harmonica, joined by Willa Mae on vocals, Johnny Ackerman on bass and Soda Pop on drums.

SixtyWatt Trivia at Christie’s Carriage Pub

Head down to Bartholomew’s for their weekly pub trivia in partnership with SixtyWatt Trivia!

These events are always a riot.

SixtyWatt is a Victoria-based trivia company that is known as the “Mr. Fix it” of quiet pub nights.

They specialize in sarcasm, banter and some pretty great one liners that you may in fact want to write home about.

With four fun rounds, each team has a chance to rake in the prizes.

Trivia is free to play, but SixtyWatt does ask that you support the venue and purchase some food or beverages.
