Two vehicles were impounded after what police say was a case of street racing on the Trans-Canada Highway in View Royal Friday evening.
According to West Shore RCMP, at around 7:20 p.m. on May 9th officers responded to a crash near the 1900 block of the highway after reports that a 2002 Ford Ranger had rolled several times before coming to rest in the median.
Witnesses told police the Ford Ranger had been driving erratically before the crash and sideswiped another vehicle while changing lanes at a high speed.
Through their investigation, officers claim the driver of the Ford Ranger had allegedly been street racing with the driver of a 2021 Dodge Ram.
Both drivers received violation tickets for driving without consideration, which carries a $196 fine and six penalty points. Police also impounded both vehicles for seven days.
The driver of the Ford Ranger was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
“Street racing is reckless behaviour that puts not only the drivers involved at risk, but every other person sharing the road,” said Cpl. Nancy Saggar, media relations officer for West Shore RCMP.
“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. Choosing to race on public roads can have serious and lasting consequences, and we encourage all drivers to make safe, responsible decisions behind the wheel.”
West Shore RCMP say road safety enforcement remains a priority throughout the region and dangerous driving behaviour will not be tolerated.
