A 41-year-old man has been issued a driving ban following a crash involving a fence and fire hydrant in Colwood Tuesday morning.

According to the West Shore RCMP, officers responded around 10:42 a.m. on May 26th to the area of Royal Bay Drive and Promenade Crescent after receiving multiple reports of a vehicle that had crashed into a fence before striking a fire hydrant.

Police said officers later located the suspect vehicle, identified as a 2007 Ford Focus, nearby on Bunker Road.

Investigators allege the driver was showing signs of drug impairment, prompting officers to pursue an impaired driving investigation.

The driver was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded. Police also issued the driver a violation ticket for allegedly failing to remain at the scene of a collision.

No injuries were reported as a result of the crash.

In a statement, West Shore RCMP thanked members of the public who called police to report the incident, saying the quick reports helped officers locate the vehicle and driver before any further harm occurred.

Police are reminding the public to pull over safely and contact police if they witness dangerous driving activity.
