Carbon Sink is an immersive multidisciplinary installation hosted by Oak Bay Marina as part of Ocean Week Victoria.

The installation merges kelp weaving, underwater video and sound design to draw audiences into the hidden world of kelp forests and seagrass meadows.

At its centre is a large hand-woven kelp “sink” sculpture containing underwater imagery and an immersive headphone-based soundscape created from hydrophone recordings, biosonification, and sonified ecological data.

The work invites visitors into a contemplative sensory experience while raising awareness about the ecological importance of kelp forests as vital carbon sinks that support biodiversity, ocean health and climate resilience.

The showcase is free, visitors are welcome to drop in during marina hours and no registration is required.
