Drivers in and around Victoria should plan ahead this Sunday, April 26th as two major events are set to bring widespread road closures and traffic disruptions across the city.
The annual Times Colonist 10K and the Khalsa Day Parade will both take place, impacting areas from James Bay and downtown to Burnside.
Officers from VicPD, Saanich Police and Central Saanich Police will be on hand throughout the day to help manage traffic and ensure both events run safely.
TC10K road closures
The TC10K kicks off shortly after 8 a.m., with the route starting in James Bay before looping through Fairfield and along Dallas Road, finishing near the Legislature.
Closures begin as early as Saturday:
- Saturday, April 25th
- Belleville Street (Government to Menzies): starting at 12 p.m.
- Menzies Street (Quebec to Belleville): starting at 3 p.m.
The above closures will remain in place until 5 p.m. on Sunday.
- Sunday, April 26
- Additional closures begin at 4 a.m. in parts of James Bay and downtown
- Full race route closures in effect roughly 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Some roads will reopen earlier in the day as conditions allow


The route will impact key corridors including Menzies Street, Dallas Road, Douglas Street and Belleville Street.
Motorists heading to ferries, seaplane terminals or the airport are advised to leave extra time, as delays are expected throughout the morning.
Khalsa Day Parade road closures
The Khalsa Day Parade takes place in the Burnside area from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a large cultural celebration continuing afterward.
The parade route includes:
- Cecelia Road
- Burnside Road
- Alpha Street
- Douglas Street
- Finlayson Street
- Jutland Road
There will be a planned stop for performances along Finlayson Street between Douglas and Burnside for approximately 20 minutes.
Expect delays across the city
Police are warning of significant congestion throughout the day, particularly in and around downtown and Burnside.
Temporary CCTV cameras and a police drone will also be in use during the events to support public safety. Officers note that no recordings are kept unless required for an investigation.
Drivers are encouraged to avoid affected areas if possible, use alternate routes, allow extra travel time and follow directions from traffic control personnel.
Both events are expected to draw large crowds, with thousands of participants and spectators taking part across the city.
