Nanaimo RCMP investigate after one man shot outside Woodgrove Centre

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating an incident outside Woodgrove Centre that resulted in one young man being shot.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, February 11th at approximately 3:30 p.m., when a group of young people became involved in a confrontation.

The situation quickly escalated as one individual discharged bear spray while another produced a firearm. 

Police say that several individuals were exposed to the bear spray, and one young man was shot.

Following the confrontation, the victim transported himself to the hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and later released.

Police have identified the alleged shooter, and say they have determined  their suspect and victim were known to each, leading investigators to believe this was an isolated incident. 

The police are now attempting to locate the suspect, and Nanaimo General Investigation Section (GIS) has taken over the investigation.

Investigators say they were involved from the outset, but were unable to confirm the location and circumstances of the shooting until the morning of Thursday, February 12th due to conflicting reports.
