Saanich’s Commonwealth pool reopens after several months of extensive maintenance

The District of Saanich announced on Friday, November 14th that all aquatic areas at Saanich Commonwealth Place have been reopened to the public.

Nearly three months ago, on August 25th, all pools at Commonwealth Place were closed for extended maintenance and capital projects.

Part of this endeavour included the installation of a brand new waterslide.

Over the last few weeks, the competition pool, teaching pool and dive tank were reopened, but this week marks the reopening of all pools,  including the wave pool, tots pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna.

As of this week, all swimming lessons and other programs have resumed. Saanich says that all registered program participants have been informed that they will receive credits for any classes that had been cancelled due to the delayed reopening.

The new water slide at Commonwealth Place was approved for use on Wednesday, and after staff are trained, it will open to the public on Wednesday, November 19th.

To celebrate the reopening of the pool and the new slide, the District is holding a grand opening on Saturday, November 29th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The District invites anyone and everyone to join in the fun alongside Mayor Dean Murdock and members of the Saanich council, who may even take a slide themselves.

“The District would like to thank patrons for their patience during the extended closure while these important improvements were made,” wrote the District in a media release.

“We’re excited to welcome you back!

Those looking forward to getting back in the pool at Commonwealth Place are advised to check in on the pool schedule for full details of when they can and cannot use the amenities they seek.
