RCMP have provided an update on their investigation into a deadly crash on Highway 97 near Quesnel that killed a Vancouver Island motorcyclist this summer.

The accident occurred around 12:34 a.m. on July 24th. Police say a black Kenworth semi-truck collided with a black Harley Davidson motorcycle near Naver Creek Road.

The motorcyclist, a 42-year-old man from Chemainus, was declared dead at the scene. The truck driver, a 38-year-old man from Aldergrove, was arrested for drunk driving.

Investigators with BC Highway Patrol say the case now depends on finding a witness who was driving a blue pickup truck.

This person is believed to have seen what happened after the crash.

“The missing witness can be heard in the background of a 911 call,” said Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol.

“We know that the witness is a man who was driving a blue pickup, and he may have provided a flashlight and other items to the driver of the tractor trailer.”

Police think the driver of the blue pickup may have important information about what took place that night.

Anyone who is the driver of that blue pickup or knows who he is should contact BC Highway Patrol in Quesnel at 250-992-9211 and mention file number 3304 2025-5987.
