Exceptional status player Eli McKamey to make Victoria Royals debut tonight

A long-awaited debut is happening tonight in Victoria, and you could be a part of it.

Forward Eli McKamey is set to hit the ice at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre Wednesday evening, making not only his Royals debut, but also marking his first game in the WHL. 

The 2009-born player most recently played for the Penticton Vees in the BCHL, and is the first player to be granted exceptional status in the league at just 15-years-old.

Last season, his first year of junior hockey, McKamey put up 31 points (15 goals, 16 assists) in 52 games played.

Before joining the BCHL’s Vees, McKamey scored 48 points (23 goals, 25 assists) for Shawnigan Lake School U18 Prep at only 14-years-old.

Eli has demonstrated for a number of years now that he is a top player in his age group” said Royals General Manager Jake Heisinger upon signing McKamey’s WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement

McKamey hails from Cowichan Bay, and was drafted by the Victoria Royals 35th overall in the second round of the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.

Seen as a top prospect for the 2027 NHL Draft, McKamey is committed to playing Division 1 hockey at the University of North Dakota.
