Get ready basketball fans in Victoria!
Canada Basketball is giving fans a chance to see the country’s best basketball talent in action this fall with a new two-game series called East to West: Road to World Cup.
The series tips off in Victoria on November 17th, when Canada’s Senior Women’s National Team faces Team Mexico at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
The matchup marks the return of W’HOOP IT UP to Vancouver Island, bringing WNBA stars and national standouts back to the court where Canadian fans have packed the stands in recent years.
It’ll be the team’s third visit to Victoria after hosting Japan in 2023 and Portugal in 2024, when they set a new attendance record of just over 5,000 fans.
“We’re thrilled to bring our Senior National Teams back to Canadian soil as we continue our journey toward the FIBA Women’s World Cup in Berlin and the FIBA Men’s World Cup in Qatar,” said Michael Bartlett, President and CEO of Canada Basketball.
This year’s game serves as a crucial warm-up for the FIBA Women’s World Cup 2026 Qualifying Tournament in Istanbul next March, where Canada will fight for a spot at the World Cup in Germany.
The women currently sit seventh in the FIBA world rankings.
“From Victoria to Toronto, these games are more than just preparation—they’re a celebration of how far Canadian basketball has come and the fans who’ve helped make it happen.”
Two weeks later, the men take centre stage in Toronto. The Senior Men’s National Team will host Team Bahamas on December 1st at Toronto Metropolitan University’s Mattamy Athletic Centre, closing out the first window of the FIBA Men’s World Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
Fans can grab tickets to W’HOOP IT UP: Canada vs. Mexico starting this Friday, October 17th through selectyourtickets.com, with prices beginning at $15.
