A joint enforcement operation at Victoria’s Ogden Point Cruise Ship Terminal has resulted in dozens of violations for taxis and ride-hailing vehicles operating on Vancouver Island.
On June 19th and 20th, BC Highway Patrol’s Integrated Road Safety Unit (IRSU) partnered with Commercial Vehicle Safety & Enforcement (CVSE) officers to conduct a passenger transportation check focused on ensuring professional drivers were meeting provincial licensing and safety requirements.
According to a media release from RCMP, the blitz targeted taxis and other passenger-directed vehicles, with officers checking for proper licensing and compliance with service conditions.
Among the most significant violations were drivers using the wrong type of passenger transportation licence and vehicles operating outside the conditions of their licence.

The results of the two-day check included 18 violation tickets issued, totalling $7,715 in fines, as well as dozen drivers or vehicles requiring to come into compliance
“BC Highway Patrol values the expertise of CVSE,” said Sergeant Jereme Leslie with the IRSU. “Together, our organizations can deliver highly effective education and enforcement for taxis, ride-hail, and other commercial vehicles on Vancouver Island highways.”
The enforcement initiative highlights ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of passengers using commercial transportation in the region. Officers say they will continue working together to monitor compliance and hold operators accountable.
