Police are investigating after a 17-year-old girl died from injuries sustained in a collision on the Trans-Canada Highway in Duncan yesterday.
The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. on Monday, May 6th.
According to North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP, the teen was struck by a southbound semi-truck at the intersection of Trunk Road and the highway.
Emergency responders transported her to hospital, but she later succumbed to her injuries.
A traffic reconstructionist was called to the scene to conduct a thorough investigation, and police are working to determine the events leading up to the crash.
“Part of the investigation will be to determine the actions of the pedestrian and the semi-truck prior to the collision,” said Corporal Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the BC RCMP.
“However, at this point in the investigation, criminality is not a factor in this incident.”
Anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area at the time is urged to contact the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522.
