Drivers cruising down the Pat Bay Highway will notice a shift starting Tuesday, April 22nd, as construction crews move the Keating Cross Road exit a little further south.
The change involves relocating the left-turn lane and waiting area at Exit 18 so crews can finish building a retaining wall that will support the future southbound on-ramp.
It’s one of the final major steps in the $76.8-million Keating Cross Road Overpass project, which has been underway since July 2023.
This new traffic pattern will stick around until the overpass is fully up and running this summer.
Once complete, the overpass is expected to ease congestion, boost safety, and improve traffic flow along the busy Patricia Bay Highway—a route many on the Saanich Peninsula rely on daily.
The large-scale project hasn’t been without its hiccups. Crews ran into a few unexpected delays over the past year, including emergency repairs and utility line issues, but construction is now in the home stretch.
When it’s all said and done, the upgraded interchange will include a new overpass, realigned southbound on-ramp, improved sidewalks, and dedicated bus-on-shoulder facilities.
