RCMP are investigating after the body of an adult was found in Nanaimo on Saturday morning, marking the second such discovery in the region within a week.
According to Nanaimo RCMP, officers were called to the 800 block of Brookfield Drive, near the upper section of the Colliery Dam, where the body was located.
“Based on the evidence, we don’t suspect criminality was involved,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP. He added that the BC Coroners Service has attended the scene as part of the ongoing investigation.
Few details have been released so far, as the case remains in its early stages.
This latest discovery follows another recent incident in which the body of an adult woman was found near the shoreline close to the Jack Point trail on Monday, March 31st.
Emergency crews, including BC Emergency Health Services and fire personnel, responded quickly, but despite efforts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say foul play is not suspected in that case either. Investigators are still working to determine the circumstances leading up to her death.
At the time she was found, the woman was wearing a black puffy parka, black leggings, and black boots. RCMP are asking anyone who may have seen her in the Duke Point area or who has dash cam footage from between 11 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. on March 31st to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
There is no confirmed connection between the two incidents.Nanaimo RCMP continue to investigate both cases and urge anyone with information to come forward.
