Nanaimo RCMP are asking for the public’s help in locating a man involved in a disturbing case of animal abuse that occurred late Tuesday morning.
At approximately 11:51 a.m. on February 12th, a witness reported seeing a man brutally attacking a small brown dog in the 6500 block of Aulds Road.
According to the witness, the man picked up the dog and threw it across the road “like a football,” then placed it into a black shopping bag and punched it multiple times.
When the witness confronted the suspect, he allegedly threatened her, prompting her to retreat and immediately contact both Animal Control and 911.
Responding RCMP officers and Animal Control personnel arrived at the scene within minutes, but neither the suspect nor the dog could be located.
The suspect is described as a thin Caucasian man, wearing a black puffy jacket with a wide gray fur-trimmed hood, brown boots, and jeans. The dog is believed to be a small, brown breed, possibly resembling a Chihuahua.
Constable Sherri Wade of the Nanaimo RCMP has urged the public not to approach the suspect if spotted. “We want to find the dog, but we don’t want anyone getting hurt,” she said.
Anyone with information on the suspect’s identity or the whereabouts of the dog is urged to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at (250) 754-2345, referencing file number 25-4134.
