Duncan cat missing for 4 months found in Saanich reunited with owner

A cat missing for more than four months is finally back home after being spotted in Saanich and identified through social media.

The Capital Regional District (CRD) Animal Shelter shared a photo of a tabby cat on April 27th after it was brought in as a stray.

Staff noted the cat had a partially unreadable tattoo and no confirmed owner at the time.

Not long after the post went up, the right person saw it.

The owner recognized the cat as Wheeler, who had been missing from Duncan since December 12th.

After reaching out to the shelter, staff were able to confirm the cat’s identity.

To make sure Wheeler got home as quickly as possible, Animal Shelter Supervisor Karen O’Brien and Animal Control Officer Brendan Dyck met the owner after hours to complete the reunion.

The CRD says the moment was a reminder of how important proper identification can be. Tattoos, microchips and collars with tags can all play a role in getting lost pets back where they belong.

Wheeler is now safe at home with what the CRD described as very grateful and relieved owners.
