Vegan poutine lovers, this is for you!
In honour of La Poutine week, happening from February 1st to 7th, PETA has given a shout-out to five Canadian restaurants for serving up the best vegan poutines.
If you’ve already had the pleasure of trying it, then perhaps you won’t be shocked to learn that Victoria’s very own MeeT is among the winners!
Specifically, MeeT’s Butter Chikkin Poutine has earned its place on this coveted list!
This plant-based twist on the classic comfort food features crispy vegan butter chikkin smothered in a creamy tomato sauce, topped with dairy-free mozzarella, refreshing kachumber veggies, cilantro, and, of course, a generous pour of meat-free gravy.
It’s a dish that’s full of flavour and perfect for anyone craving a deliciously vegan take on the beloved poutine.
“It’s all gravy at MeeT, which crafted a sumptuous cow- and chicken-friendly Indian-style poutine that curd’n’t [sic] be beat,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk.
“Every one of these delicious vegan versions of a classic Canadian comfort food are earning a PETA nod, satisfying diners, and leaving animals in peace—it’s a win-win-win.”
As part of the recognition, MeeT will receive a framed certificate from PETA—along with some serious bragging rights.
Other winners include Odd Burger in Regina, SK, Leopold’s Tavern in Winnipeg, MB, NJ’s Kitchen in St. John’s, NL, and Naked Cafe in Kelowna, BC.
Make sure to swing by MeeT and try it for yourself! You’ll be supporting a local gem and indulging in a plant-based treat that’s anything but ordinary!
