Several people were arrested Wednesday evening after a reported home invasion prompted a significant police response in Vic West.

VicPD, including members of the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team, were called to a residence in the 700-block of Belton Avenue at approximately 7:20 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26th.

According to police, a tactical response was initiated due to concerns that armed individuals could be inside the home.

Several people were taken into custody, although police have not released details about the arrests or whether any charges have been recommended.

Residents in the area were asked to shelter in place while officers worked to safely resolve the situation. Others were advised to stay away from the area.

VicPD said the incident has since been resolved and there is no indication of a broader risk to the public.

“We recognize the significant police presence in the area may have caused concern and thank the public for their patience,” VicPD said in a statement.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police said no further information is available at this time.
