Exciting news for travelers between Vancouver and Victoria!
Harbour Air, North America’s largest seaplane airline, has launched its first-ever wheeled flight service, offering a new and convenient way to get between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Victoria International Airport (YYJ).
This innovative service includes three daily round-trip flights Monday through Friday, featuring early morning and late evening options.
The introduction of wheeled aircraft comes in response to growing demand for more flexible flight times, especially for business travelers and those looking to fly outside of daylight hours.
To improve reliability during inclement weather, Harbour Air has upgraded two of its 19-seat Twin Otter aircraft with wheels and de-icing equipment, allowing for smoother operations even in less-than-ideal conditions.
To mark the milestone, the first wheeled flight from YVR’s South Terminal to YYJ took off early Monday morning, accompanied by a special cedar brushing ceremony led by Musqueam Nation elders.
This tribute was followed by a land acknowledgement and a ribbon-cutting ceremony, officially welcoming passengers to the new service.
When the flight landed at YYJ, it was greeted by a traditional water cannon salute in a ceremonial welcome for the inaugural passengers.
Another ribbon-cutting ceremony and traditional land acknowledgement from the W̱SÁNEĆ Nations followed at the airport, celebrating the successful launch of the new route.
“Today marks a major milestone for Harbour Air,” said Chris Fordyce, VP of Commercial at Harbour Air.
“With both our new wheeled flights and our seaplane services, we’re offering more daily frequencies than any other airline along this route. We’re excited to welcome guests on board and look forward to providing even more options as we head into the winter months.”
