The City of Victoria will host a conference on community safety and well-being at the end of the month.

The Victoria mayor will host “Intentional Transformation: Reimagining Inclusive Community Safety and Wellbeing” at the Victoria Conference Centre from October 27th to 30th.

The conference aims to bring together leaders and experts from various sectors to address issues related to community safety and wellbeing.

It will include discussions on a range of topics, including urban safety, challenges in small and rural communities, collaboration in solving social issues, policing, addiction and health care, youth support services, and strategies for addressing homelessness and crime reduction.

Keynote speaker Professor Dr. Matthias Drilling, from the School of Social Work at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland, will present on the intersections of poverty, urban design, and social sustainability.

The conference is all about bringing people together—residents, scholars, community leaders, service providers, and those with lived experiences—to share ideas and work together.

“I invite residents, scholars, community and government leaders, subject matter experts, individuals with lived experience, service providers and knowledge keepers from across North America to come together in Victoria to share their insights and experiences with community safety and wellbeing,” said Mayor Alto.

“Sharing our diverse stories, perspectives and expertise, we will learn from one another, collaboratively deepen our understanding, reimagine the concepts and reality of community safety and wellbeing, and create intentional, practical solutions to address the challenges all our communities face.”

The main conference activities will commence on Monday, October 28th, and continue until midday Wednesday, October 30th.

On Sunday, October 27th, optional pre-conference study tours and experiences will be available.

Additionally, attendees can participate in a related event on October 31st, organized by the Strong Cities Network and Foundation for a Path Forward, which focuses on local initiatives to combat hate and extremism.

The conference is open to attendees from Victoria and across North America. For more information and to register, visit victoriaconference2024.ca.
