North Cowichan-Duncan RCMP are investigating after the body of a missing 26-year-old man was located in the waters off Cowichan Bay.
The man, who was last seen on Monday, was reported missing on Wednesday, prompting an extensive land and water search involving multiple RCMP units, including police dog services, the RCMP West Coast Marine Unit, and an RCMP helicopter, as well as Marine Search and Rescue.
The search concluded around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, when his body was discovered in the bay. Although there are currently no indications of foul play, investigators are looking into the circumstances of his death and his movements in the days leading up to it.
“While the investigation thus far hasn’t raised suspicions of criminality, the circumstances surrounding this person’s death are being thoroughly examined, including his actions on the days prior to his death,” said Corporal Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the RCMP in British Columbia.
RCMP has not released the man’s name and is urging anyone with information related to the case to contact them at 250-748-5522.
