BC Ferries has cancelled seven sailings between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen on Tuesday, September 3rd, as well as four the following day, due to a mechanical issue on the 60-year-old Queen of New Westminster.
The following Tuesday sailings have been cancelled as a result:
- 8 a.m. departing Swartz Bay
- 10 a.m. departing Tsawwassen
- 12 p.m. departing Swartz Bay
- 2 p.m. departing Tsawwassen
- 4 p.m. departing Swartz Bay
- 6 p.m. departing Tsawwassen
- 8 p.m. departing Swartz Bay
Other sailings on the Coastal Celebration and the Spirit of Vancouver Island on this route are expected to proceed as scheduled, according to BC Ferries.
At 1:10 p.m. on September 3rd, BC Ferries announced the mechanical issue would put the vessel out of commission for numerous days, rather than just Tuesday.
Thus far, they have added what cancellations will take place on Wednesday, September 4th, of which there are only four:
- 10 a.m. departing Tsawwassen
- 12 p.m. departing Swartz Bay
- 2 p.m. departing Tsawwassen
- 4 p.m. departing Swartz Bay
To try to mitigate the number of people affected by these cancellations, BC Ferries has added two evening sailings using another vessel on this route, for both September 3rd and 4th.
There will be an additional sailing departing Swartz Bay at 6 p.m. and one at 8 p.m. departing Tsawwassen.
People impacted by the cancellations will reportedly be informed of the situation by BC Ferries Customer Service Centre, who will help commuters by trying to fit them on an alternate sailing later today.
Those whose ferry has been cancelled will receive a refund of their fees and/or fares.
“We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience you may experience as a result of these cancellations,” said BC Ferries in a media release.
