Next week, Victoria’s first taste of rain may help firefighting efforts at the ‘Old Man Lake’ wildfire located in Sooke Potholes Regional Park.
As of this publication, the wildfire which was discovered on Monday, July 22nd has grown to 169 hectares in size and remains out of control, according to the BC Wildfire Service.
Environment Canada is forecasting that the weekend will remain relatively sunny until Sunday, when clouds are expected.
Beginning Monday, there is rain in the forecast with a 60% chance of showers.
According to Environment Canada, these rains may continue through the evening and into Tuesday, which is forecasted as having a 40% chance of showers.
On Wednesday, the forecast is predicting an end to the brief period of rain with a partly cloudy day.

As the wildfire continues to grow in Sooke Potholes Regional Park, a special weather statement was issued earlier this week regarding air quality.
Currently, Environment Canada says that in Victoria the air quality is low risk, with a rating of only two. When a rating of four is reached, air quality is considered to be moderate risk and when it reaches seven, it is considered high risk.
However, the national weather authority warns that when near the source of the smoke, the air quality rating will be between seven and eight.
This is dependent on the wind conditions and how efforts progress in fighting the Old Man Lake wildfire.
