A 17-year-old boy who was pulled from Langford Lake after drowning on Saturday has died from his injuries, according to the organizers of a fundraiser for his family.
Keron McKay was swimming near a floating dock at Langford Lake when nearby swimmers saw him go under and not resurface.
He was pulled out of the water by fellow swimmers and brought onto the floating dock, where life-saving efforts were made by those present.
Paramedics arrived soon after and were ferried to McKay by civilians with boats. He was then transported back to the lake’s main dock using the Langford Fire Department’s vessel.
McKay was subsequently taken to the hospital in critical condition. Sadly, his family confirmed on a GoFundMe page that he died on Wednesday afternoon from his injuries.

“It is with a heavy heart that I let you know that Keron passed away peacefully late yesterday afternoon. His family was with him. Please continue to help his family as they grieve,” read the message.

Shortly after the incident, a family friend launched a fundraiser to help his father, Phillip McKay, who is raising a family of five on his own.
“Phillip is the single father to five children,” wrote Nicola Lenton, who started the fundraiser.
She says Phillip works hard to support his family and maintains a positive, happy and caring environment for his kids.
As of this publication, the fundraiser has garnered just $11,529 of the $50,000 goal.
