West Shore RCMP say they received a call at around 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 15th when witnesses saw a young man swimming in the lake go underwater and not come back up.
According to police, the 17-year-old was pulled from the water by other swimmers and brought to a floating dock located around 200 feet from the main dock.
These bystanders reportedly administered CPR, trying to save the boy while emergency services were on their way to aid.
“There were many bystanders who acted quickly to help this young man,” said Inspector Stephen Rose, Officer in Charge of Operations at West Shore RCMP.
“There were witnesses who called police right away, others that jumped in the water and applied life-saving measures, and boaters who quickly ferried emergency personnel over to the floating dock.”
Police say that Langford Fire then used their boat to transfer him back to the shore, but the boaters who aided paramedics in getting to the youth were crucial to getting him the help he needed.
The youth was taken to the hospital where he remains in critical condition, according to West Shore RCMP.
