A recent study conducted by a Canadian company suggests that Victoria is the second most walkable city in the country.

This study was done by analyzing how long it takes to walk between the top five tourist attractions via TripAdvisor using what most tourists utilize to navigate a new city, Google Maps.

According to the study, the most walkable city is Halifax.

The capital of Nova Scotia has popular tourist hubs such as Halifax Public Gardens, Halifax Citadel, the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 and the Waterfront Boardwalk which were the top five destinations for those visiting from out of town.

The fastest route between these locations is just 3.3 kilometres—less than 5,000 steps for the average person.

Victoria came in just behind Halifax as the second most walkable city, but what are the most popular tourist attractions here?

Well, according to the study, Craigdarroch Castle, the Royal BC Museum, the Inner-Harbour Pathway, the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia and Beacon Hill Park are the most visited and top-rated spots in town.

To walk between all five of these locations is around 4.4 kilometres according to the study. This equates to around 5,720 steps for the average walker.

According to the study, if one were to simply walk past without stopping to investigate these locations, it would take around one hour to visit them all.

Behind Victoria were London, On.; Ottawa, Ont.; Toronto, Ont.; Vancouver, BC.; Winnipeg, Man.; Quebec City, Que.; Kitchener, Ont.; and Vaughan, Ont.

As for least walkable cities, Hamilton, Ont. took the number one spot with the shortest route between its top five tourist attractions being 57.7 kilometres.

This equates to 13 hours and 15 minutes to walk between them all and around 75,000 steps.
