The BC Ministry of Health reported 1,434 new cases of COVID-19 for a three-day period on Monday, August 16th.
There have been 156,513 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
Day-to-Day Breakdown:
- Friday-Saturday: 532
- Saturday-Sunday: 441
- Sunday-Monday: 461
New cases were reported in these health regions:
- Vancouver Coastal Health: 198
- Fraser Health: 316
- Island Health: 112
- Interior Health: 734
- Northern Health: 74
- Resident outside Canada: 0
There are currently 5,090 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.
149,553 people who tested positive have recovered.
There are now a total of 104 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 47 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.
1 new person has died from COVID-related causes, making the provincial death toll 1,780.
Outbreaks
There are currently 7 active outbreaks in long term care: Kin Village West Court and Evergreen Baptist Care Society in Fraser Health, Nelson Jubilee Manor, Kootenay Street Village, Cottonwoods Care Centre and Brookhaven Care Centre in Interior Health, and Discovery Harbour in Island Health.
There are currently 3 active outbreaks in assisted or independent living facilities: Village at Mill Creek – second floor, Hawthorn Park and David Lloyd in Interior Health.
Island Health:
Island Health reported 112 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Island region and 266 active cases.
Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:
- South Vancouver Island Active cases: 154 │Total Cases: 2266
- Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 87 │ Total Cases: 2662
- North Vancouver Island Active cases: 25 │Total Cases: 749
There have been no new deaths in the Island Health region today, and a total of 41 deaths on Vancouver Island.
Vaccinations
82.6% of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 73.2% received their second dose.
In addition, 83.5% of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose and 74.6% received their second dose.
To date, 7,230,961 (+66,941) doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC; 3,393,049 (+55,701) of which are second doses.
