Sailboats struggle to stay afloat amid extreme winds in Oak Bay

Share

This morning’s sudden gale hit the sailboats in Oak Bay pretty hard.

According to a Tweet from Oak Bay Police, one of them has crashed into a fence near Glenlyon Norfolk School on Beach Drive – officers are now seeking the owner of the boat.

The photo shows another sailboat that is clearly in distress and headed towards shore as well.

Extreme weather

Vancouver Island is currently under a weather advisory from Environment Canada due to high winds.

This has already caused thousands of people to experience power outages across the island, as well as B.C. Ferries cancelling several sailings this morning.

Stay safe out there, folks!
