Hear ye, hear ye!
Ye olde ren faire returns to Victoria this weekend, huzzah!
The Victoria Renaissance Faire will take place at Banfield Park from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. this Saturday, August 15th, bringing with it fairies, lords, ladies, merry fellows, witches, rogues, rascals and creatures not easily explained.
This is the second annual iteration of the event, where attendees can expect theatre performances, ballads from musicians and consorts, trinket trading, mead, ale, wine and victuals aplenty.
Musicians attending the faire include Brianna Bear, Raffordi, Grumble & Gromble, Draa, Jilian, Molly Pocket, Gwen, Nightingale, Side Project and Kristen Grove-White, with Beam N’ Bloom serving as a wandering performer.
One of the faire’s most anticipated events is the costume contest, which will take place at 3 p.m., when period costumes and playfully anachronistic garb will be judged through audience cheering to decide a winner.
The Company of Blue Dragons will also be present and competing in the art of Buhurt. The company will be wearing full steel and wielding blunted steel weapons while they compete in unscripted hand-to-hand combat.
The faire’s market will feature dozens of local and travelling vendors, bringing with them trinkets to trade and purchase.
The event is hosted by the Victoria Renaissance Faire Society, who say their mission is to bring an accessible, Indigenous-focused ren faire to Victoria.
To highlight Indigenous culture at the event, there will be an “Alley” that centres Indigenous magic and joy.
After a successful first year, they hope to make the event an annual occurrence moving forward.
