In the same week that a Malahat resident won a Lotto Max draw, another lucky Vancouver Islander just became $100,000 richer.
Sidney resident Cora won the $100,000 MAXPLUS prize from the May 1st Lotto Max draw.
According to Cora, she had a few lottery tickets hiding at the bottom of her purse and decided to check them at a lotto kiosk while grocery shopping.
She scanned a few tickets, the last of which scored her $100,000.
“I had a few tickets to check,” said Cora. “First one won $20, second won a free play, third won $1, fourth won nothing.”
“The fifth and last ticket I scanned had a draw date that was my wedding anniversary. The $100,000 flashed on the screen and I thought that it couldn’t be right,” she exclaimed.
After scanning the big winner, Cora says she was most excited to share the news with her husband.
“He was speechless and was very, very happy,” she recalled.
Cora plans to renovate her home with the winnings, and will use the rest to plan for “some things that couldn’t be done before.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Thrifty Foods on Seventh Street in Sidney.
According to the BC Lottery Corporation, every Lotto Max draw includes multiple $100,000 cash prizes. For every $1 million in the main jackpot, a $100,000 prize is added to the draw.
