VicPD officer charged with sexual assault following external investigation

A VicPD officer has been officially charged with sexual assault following an external investigation.

In April 2025, VicPD says they were notified by a third-party agency of one of their officers allegedly sexually assaulting an individual while off-duty.

VicPD notified the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner (OPCC) and engaged the West Shore RCMP to investigate the incident.

West Shore RCMP’s investigation resulted in a sexual assault charge being approved by the BC Prosecution Service against VicPD Constable Chris Kayiatos.

VicPD says that Kayiatos has since been suspended, and his duty status is subject to continual review and assessment. They did not specify whether his leave is paid or unpaid.

“Allegations of this nature are deeply concerning and do not reflect the standards of professionalism and conduct expected of VicPD members,” said Chief Constable Fiona Wilson.

“At the same time, it is important that the judicial process be allowed to proceed independently and fairly. We remain committed to accountability, transparency, and ensuring all allegations are treated with the seriousness they deserve.”

As this matter is now before the courts, VicPD will be providing no further comment.

Victoria Buzz reached out to the OPCC for comment on how their investigation is progressing, but as of this publication has received no response.

This is sick! Why wasn’t he behind bars well investigation was ongoing? Let me guess he will be on PAID leave? His duty status to be reviewed? Why the heck is he even still an officer. He deserves to be put in gen pop on mainland. This is exactly why a few people myself included dislike the police. They don’t help the ones who truly need it or they take their badge and think it gives them the right to do as they please. Shame on them! I hope the person who was assaulted will be ok.
