The stage is set, the ice is in, and the capital city’s WHL team is ready to embark on another season of hockey.
After a successful training camp last week capped off by the club’s annual intra-squad game on Sunday, the Victoria Royals have set their sights on the road ahead—and right now, that’s the pre-season.
A whopping sixty-six players hit the ice of the SOFMC for training camp, split into four squads—teams black, red, blue and white.
Throughout the week, these teams played a round-robin tournament leading up to Sunday morning’s intra-squad showcase game.
The showcase game featured a ‘Blue vs. White’ format, with Team Blue taking the win after a spirited back-and-forth bout which ended in a score of 6-5.
A Royal pre-season
The Royals’ pre-season will officially kick off next week on Tuesday, September 9th—the club has released the below roster who will lace up in four pre-season games:
To start the pre-season, the club will head over to the mainland to take on division rivals the Vancouver Giants on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 9th and 10th.
Following this, the Royals will host their first-ever pre-season matches on Vancouver Island!
On Friday, September 12th, the boys in blue will touch down at Kerry Park Recreation Centre to go face-to-face against the Everett Silvertips—making it the Royals’ first home game away from the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre.
Following this, a second match against the Silvertips will take place on Saturday, September 13th at Cowichan Community Centre in Duncan to close out the pre-season.

The Royals will officially drop the puck on their regular season on Friday, September 19th at SOFMC versus the all-new Penticton Vees franchise. Puck drop for that game is slated for 7:05 p.m., and you can grab your tickets here.
